2019 CFSEI JOHN P. MATSEN AWARD FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE WINNER

Steve Walker, P.E., 2019 CFSEI John P. Matsen Award for Distinguished Service WinnerThe Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI) has named Steven Walker, P.E., as the recipient of the 2019 CFSEI John P. Matsen Award for Distinguished Service. The award recognizes the significant contributions of an individual who has volunteered time, talent and resources to the cold-formed steel industry. It was renamed in 2016 to honor John P. Matsen, P.E., founder and principal of Matsen Ford Design Associates in Waukesha, Wisconsin, who passed away in June 2015. Steven Walker was recognized during the 2019 CFSEI Expo held June 4-6 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Chicago – Magnificent Mile in Chicago, Illinois.

“Steve is an ‘out of the box’ cold-formed steel thinker and problem solver known for his creativity in working with retrofit projects and for unselfishly sharing his knowledge and experience with the cold-formed steel community,” said Maribeth Rizzuto, LEED AP – BD+C, managing director of the Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute. “He was influential in the early development of several cold-formed steel framing standards. He was also the initiator of the CFSEI Technical Notes series, which has become a primary source for educating engineers on the many facets of cold-formed steel design.”

Steven Walker, P.E., has been involved with the design of cold-formed steel framing for more than 30 years. He was the founder and principal of the Light Gauge Steel Engineering Group, Inc. His experience with cold-formed steel framing includes consulting for product manufacturers, the design of specialty accessories and clips, forensic investigations, structural repair and remediation, and loadbearing cold-formed steel multi-story structural design. He has served on the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) Committee on Specifications (COS) and Committee on Framing Standards (COFS), and was a board member of CFSEI from 2005-2006 during its transitional phase from the Light Gauge Steel Engineers Association. Steven served on the CFSEI Task Group to implement cold-formed steel engineer certification and on the AISI Task Group for the Code of Standard Practice for the Cold-Formed Steel Structural Framing Industry. He implemented CFSEI’s Technical Notes series as a means to educate engineers on the various facets of cold-formed steel design.
