Presentation Outline: The presentation provides an overview of cold-formed steel (CFS) connection design concepts listed in chapter E of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) North American Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members (AISI S100), as specified in the 2009 International Building Code (IBC). It covers in detail screw connections, the most common for CFS construction, as well as welded and bolted CFS connections. In addition, it also covers connections not included in the specification such as Power actuated fasteners as well as anticipated upcoming changes in design provisions for screws welds and bolts. IBC and International Code Council Evaluation Service testing requirements are also covered.

Presenter J.R. Ubejd Mujagic, Ph.D.,P.E., S.E. is a practicing engineer from Atlanta, Georgia and an associate with Uzun & Case Engineers, LLC. He obtained his undergraduate degree in civil engineering at the University of Arkansas and graduate degrees at Virginia Tech. He has subsequently gained a diverse experience in the design and behavior of cold-formed steel structures in the metal building industry and as a consultant. His research interests in cold-formed steel include connections, diaphragm behavior and design, seismic design and reliability of cold-formed steel members and systems. He is an active member of AISI subcommittees on Connections, Seismic Design, and Diaphragms; and the AISI Committee on Specifications. He is also a member of American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) TC-5 Composite Design, AISC TC-3 Loads and Analysis, as well as the Structural Stability Research Council (SSRC) TG-20 Composite Members. Dr. Mujagic serves as a reviewer for the Elsevier Journal of Constructional Steel Research.
