Tech NotePresentation Outline:  Cold-formed steel framing members are typically connected using metal connectors and small fasteners.  These connections whether they use angles, blocks of stud, or proprietary clips require proper design to produce a strong and easy to install connection.  In this webinar, common construction problems will be reviewed such as insufficient tool access, drill capacity, and adjustability. The presenter will use recently published analysis techniques to show the designer how to determine connection capacity under eccentric loading, buckling, prying and other commonly overlooked failure modes.

The presenter will also explain the techniques of connection design with special emphasis on clip angles designed for compression, tension and shear.

John LyonsMr. John Lyons, P.E., S.E., is owner of Structural Evolution LLC, a firm specializing in the design of cold-formed steel framed structures. He has over 18 years of experience in the industry. Mr. Lyons is Secretary and Treasurer of the Atlanta Chapter of the CFSEI and is a former member of the CFSEI national executive committee. He is the author of several CFSEI technical notes related to the design of cold-formed steel framing connections.
