Continuing Education: 1.5 hours available

This presentation is intended to summarize the connection between many of the legally required and voluntary regulations that heavily affect the cold-formed steel framing industry. We will begin by exploring the relationships between ICC developed model codes and the referenced standards within those model codes such as ASTM International and AISI standards. Then we will look at both code required and voluntary Green Building certification programs. An example of a code required Green Building program being the International Green Construction Code (IgCC) and a popular voluntary program called LEED. Regulations affecting the steel supply chain we be looked at as well, examples including Buy America, Buy American, Domestic State requirements, Conflict Mineral laws and the California Transparency in Supply Chain Act. Finally, we will conclude with summary of how they all tie together and affect cold-formed steel framing in the construction industry.
